Man, I got to hand it to Kendrick Lamar, he really doesn’t give a friggies when it comes to his rap…unapologetic justice I must say. Now the unapologetic rapper has created a stir in the Hip Hop industry as to who is the definite King of Hip Hop at it’s competitive core.
The rapper sets the standard again and begins the ultimate competitive battle with both his friends and nemesis. Many people will think that this is a diss to rappers Jermaine Cole, Big KRIT, Wale, Pusha T, Meek Millz, A$AP Rocky, Drake, Big Sean, Jay Electron’, Tyler, Mac Miller whilst many would argue that Lamar’s deliberate purpose of ‘naming names’ i.e rappers is not to diss — but to stir competition, and a healthy one at that. The Californian native has proclaimed his monarchy status of both of the East & West Coast with his bridge and verse in ‘Control’.
So really folks? Who is really the King Of Hip Hop? How can we assess who is the King? Do we assess on the basis of lyrical poetic ability or by commercial success?
While these questions are open for personal opinion and debate, one thing is clear: Kendrick Lamar is in control…although this has caused a lot of mixed responses fans and rappers; many whom have created a music response to the egolistic track.
So you think you’re the King of New York Kendrick Lamar? Hmmmm let’s see. Bring it on rappers, cause this is about to get heated.
